Warfarin under-dosing of a patient may lead to a thromboembolism and conversely over-dosing may lead to a severe bleeding event. Therefore patients need to undergo regular monitoring with the regular testing of the patient’s prothrombin time using the international normalised ratio (INR) (Wu 2009; Yin & Miyata 2007).
